Description

Description This 14-week course is designed for fashion design students and recent grads who want to master textile printing and bring their own fabrics to life. Created in collaboration with Atelier Textile and taught by top-tier artists, this is a rare opportunity to learn professional printmaking in a setting built for it — something most fashion programs don’t offer. Why Take This Course? Most designers rely on pre-made fabrics — but if you want to really stand out, you need to create your own. This course gives you that edge. With direct access to the exceptional equipment and expertise of Atelier Textile, you’ll learn advanced printing methods and apply them to a fully developed personal project. You’ll leave not just with a textile — but with a material manifesto. Instructors Danny Gauthier — Director of Atelier Textile and master printmaker with deep industry knowledge Milan Tanedjikov — Founder of LIGNES DE FUITE, guiding concept development, garment realization, and exhibit direction Guest Artists — Invited experts in specialized printmaking practices Course Breakdown Weeks 1–7: Technical Exploration Learn and test a wide range of professional printmaking techniques through weekly hands-on experimentation. Techniques may include: Screen printing Sublimation Transfer methods Resist and discharge Hybrid applications Dye work and layering Participants will build a personal technical print library while exploring combinations and possibilities that support their conceptual direction. Weeks 8–14: Personal Print Project — Manifesto in Print In the second half of the course, you’ll shift from testing to expression. Using a standardized triple-panel oversized T-shirt pattern provided by LDF, each participant will develop a project that explores the T-shirt as a site of personal or political visibility — historically linked to protest, identity, and public messaging. Each participant will: Begin with a white or light-colored base fabric of their choosing Develop a conceptual position or personal viewpoint Use acquired print techniques to translate this into a cohesive surface Assemble the final garment using LDF’s pattern and technical support The T-shirt is not the goal — it’s the format. What matters is the statement you make on it. All final garments will be exhibited as part of the LIGNES DE FUITE Design Research Exhibit, offering each participant a chance to present their values, process, and visual voice in a shared public space.
